This position performs its duties on the Indian Valley (Novato) campus with occasional travel to the Kentfield Campus, so if not already residing within the Bay Area, the successful candidate must be willing to relocate.
Position Overview
The job of Pool Maintenance Worker is done for the purpose/s of maintaining an attractive, sanitary and safe swimming pool for students, staff and public; controlling swimming pool chemicals; maintaining required logs; ensuring availability of equipment and/or supplies; and complying with health and safety requirements.

Essential Functions


  • Cleans assigned school facilities (e.g. swimming pool, pool deck, equipment areas, etc. ) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary and safe condition.
  • Evaluates equipment function for the purpose of maintaining facilities and/or complying with mandated health requirements.
  • Inspects swimming pool, deck, mechanical equipment, etc. (e.g. diving board, starting blocks, emergency equipment, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that it is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying necessary repairs.
  • Maintains pool, including proper chemical and PH rate for the purpose of complying with mandated safety and health requirements.
  • Maintains records (e.g., logs, etc.) for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference trail and/or complying with mandated requirements.
  • Performs minor repairs on equipment, fixtures, etc. for the purpose of maintaining a safe condition.
  • Prepares purchase orders for the purpose of ensuring the availability of supplies as needed.
  • Stocks chemicals and other supplies for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and security of items.
Other Functions:
  • Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Assists with setup and/or movement of equipment (e.g. starting blocks, benches, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability for special events, etc.
  • Responds to inquiries from students, staff, public, County Health Department, etc. for the purpose of conveying information and reporting swimming pool operations, safety and water conditions.


Requirements & Desirables

REQUIREMENTS
  1. A high school diploma or the equivalent and job related experience are required; and
  2. Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
DESIRABLES
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certificate or ability to obtain.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (Desirable Attributes & Skills)

SKILLS are required to perform single technical tasks with an occasional need to upgrade skills due to changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating pool maintenance equipment; and handling hazardous materials. Use of new or additional equipment brought about by new technology shall be incorporated consistent with the level of responsibility and complexity of this job.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math including calculation of fractions, percents and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats and/or present information before groups; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; and pool equipment/mechanics.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and coordinate a significant number of factors in the use of equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others under a variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using various methods of operation. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of similar types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job related equipment. In working with others, some problem solving is required to analyze issues, create plans of action and reach solutions; with data it is limited; and with equipment it is moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; adhering to safety practices; and maintaining records. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, disabilities and learning styles of community college students and staff are also required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Prior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following:
  1. In accordance with Federal Law all employees must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  2. Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance.
  3. California Education Code, Section 87408.6 requires persons employed by a community college in an academic or classified position to submit to a TB risk assessment developed by CDPH and CTCA and, if risk factors are present, an examination to determine that he or she is free of infectious TB; initially upon hire and every four years thereafter.
  4. DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS: All Marin Community College District (MCCD) employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the MCCD requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency. RESPONSIBILITY
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision; providing information and/or advising other persons; and operating within a defined budget and/or financial guidelines. Utilization of resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the Organization's services.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; significant reaching, handling, fingering and/or feeling. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 80% walking and 15% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes, some hazardous conditions (e.g. mechanical, cuts, burns, infectious disease, high decibel noise, etc.), and in a clean atmosphere.

SALARY INFORMATION
FLSA Status:

Salary Range: SEIU 465
Starting Salary Range: $24.95 to $27.50 per hour (Step 1-3). Normal entering step is Step 1.
