Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Project Coordinator or a Project Manager in the Facilities Services Department. The Project Coordinator is responsible for coordinating multiple construction, repair, and renovation projects of minimal design and construction complexity, volume, budget and timelines. The Project Manager is responsible for managing multiple construction, repair, and renovation projects of moderate design and construction complexity, volume, budget and timelines.

Project Coordinator Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate multiple projects involving departments, architectural/engineering firms, contractors, vendors and state agencies; conduct project meetings;
  • Meet with customers for project planning; develop budgets, schedules, cost estimates, specifications and other information related to project development;
  • Assist with consultant contract negotiations and selection processes;
  • Complete procurements for design, construction and consultant services;
  • Coordinate work with out-sourced architectural/engineering consultants;
  • Conduct daily site visits to the project to review progress and ensure compliance with design and construction documents; conduct final inspections;
  • Ensure that nonconformance with plans and quality of work situations are addressed with contractors and appropriate remedies are implemented;
  • Assist with the review, and process change orders, requests for information, general construction correspondence, and invoices; and
  • Other duties as assigned.


Project Manager Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Manage multiple projects involving departments, architectural/engineering firms, contractors, vendors and state agencies; conduct project meetings;
  • Meet with customers or departments to develop, finalize and manage planning, budgeting, scheduling, cost estimates, specifications and other information regarding architectural/engineering design, bidding, and construction management and ensure scope complies with campus standards;
  • Complete procurements for design, construction and consultant services;
  • Manage consultant contract negotiations and selection processes; award contracts;
  • Manage work with out-sourced architectural/engineering consultants;
  • Conduct daily site visits to the project to review progress and ensure compliance with design and construction documents; conduct final inspection;
  • Ensure that nonconformance with plans and quality of work situations are addressed with contractors and appropriate remedies are implemented;
  • Review and approve change orders, requests for information, general construction correspondence, and invoices;
  • Interpret and enforce building codes and ordinances; and
  • Other duties as assigned.


This position reports to the Director of Construction Services.

Required Qualifications

Project Coordinator

High School Graduation and four (4) years of relevant work experience; OR

Associate's Degree and three (3) years of relevant work experience; OR

Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of relevant work experience; OR

Master's Degree and one (1) year of relevant work experience

Related Experience: Experience as a project coordinator for projects of narrow scope requiring coordination of a limited number of trades or engineering specialties, resources and finances.

A valid Class "C" driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Project Manager

Bachelor's Degree and four (4) years of related professional experience ; OR

Master's Degree and two (2) years of related professional experience

Related Experience: Progressively responsible experience as a project manager for increasingly complex projects typically requiring coordination of multiple trades and engineering specialties, mid-range timelines, and increased finances.

A valid Class "C" driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Physical Demands

This position requires walking or standing to a significant degree and pushing and/or pulling; exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. This position requires the incumbent to climb ladders and enter into attics, crawl spaces, mechanical rooms, trenches, and other such confined spaces.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with experience; coordinating and managing construction projects in the role of an owners' representative; managing projects that included an abatement and/or hazardous material remediation scope of work; that have education, training and/or experience in commercial electrical design and construction (to include low, medium and high voltage systems); and training or degree in electrical engineering, are encouraged to apply.

Schedule and Travel Requirements

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. This position may be able to elect an alternative work schedule.

This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.
