Accountabilities:
The Athletic Equipment Assistant is responsible for managing daily operations in the athletic equipment room and laundry facility, ensuring all equipment and uniforms are in good condition for athletes and teams. This role involves performing routine maintenance, inventory control, and supporting athletic events.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance and Repairs: Assist with the repair and maintenance of sports apparel, gear, and equipment to ensure everything is functional.
  • Inventory Management: Track and manage inventory of athletic equipment, conduct periodic inventories, and handle UPS deliveries according to established protocols.
  • Event Setup: Prepare competition uniforms, set up locker rooms for both home and visiting teams, and assist with event-related tasks.
  • Laundry and Equipment Operations: Oversee the use of chemicals and machine cycles in the commercial laundry facility, ensuring all equipment and uniforms are cleaned, ready and delivered daily.
  • Skate Maintenance: Perform maintenance on hockey equipment, including skate sharpening, blade and rivet repairs, and helmet servicing.
  • Sanitation: Use sanitation machines to clean equipment.
  • Problem-Solving: Address issues with athletic equipment and coordinate with facilities or vendors as needed.
  • Student Worker Supervision: Oversee and guide student workers when applicable.
  • Completing other job related duties as assigned by the Director or Assistant Director of Equipment Services.

This position requires daily problem-solving regarding athletic equipment and adherence to OSHA regulations and NCAA safety standards. The Athletic Equipment Assistant must be AEMA certified upon hire or obtain certification within two years.
Additional responsibilities include issuing, collecting, and maintaining computerized records for lockers and locks.
This position is covered under the SEIU Local 200 - Facilities bargaining unit contract.

Professional Experience/Qualifications
  • Ability to sharpen skates, repair equipment, and operate commercial laundry machinery effectively.
  • Proficient in the safe and proper use of basic power tools.
  • Demonstrated capability to collaborate collegially with a diverse group of individuals on a daily basis.
  • Commitment to reliable work performance and attendance.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • AEMA certification is required or must be obtained within two years of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Skate sharpening experience.
  • Prior experience in a college equipment environment highly preferred.

Education
A Bachelors degree is required.

This position is covered under the SEIU Local 200 - Facilities bargaining unit contract.
Colgate bargaining unit employees must apply by 10/15/20 in order to be considered.

Work Schedule:
This is a 10-month position requiring evening and weekend work. Typical off periods are from May 15 to June 15 and from December 15 to January 15.

40 hours per week: 1:00pm-9:30pm Wednesday- Sunday
