Webster University
Webster University has an opening for a full-time Maintenance Technician/Plumbing. The incumbent will perform skilled tasks of moderate difficulty in the maintenance, operation, and repair of buildings, facilities, equipment and equipment installation within the University in support of the Facilities Operations department. May work in conjunction with other Facilities Operations staff members for assistance and guidance with maintenance and repair assignments requiring a higher level of skill or involving greater difficulty. May be asked to assist and provide guidance to General Facilities Operations staff to aid them with assignments requiring a higher level of skill or involving greater difficulty. While work is distributed to take advantage of particular skills possessed, employees would normally perform work at various times that may involve all areas of building repair and maintenance and, due to fluctuating workloads, may be required on an occasional basis and according to need, to perform duties at a level of skill lower than required by his/her ordinary assignment. Assures adherence to shop safety practices and rules. Reports to the Facilities Operations Project Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications
3-4 years related experience.
Good knowledge of practices, work methods, tools and equipment associated with building maintenance trade.
Ability to operate hand tools associated with building maintenance field.
Ability to read blue prints, schemas, and plans to analyze and locate work projects.
Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions.
Sufficient strength to perform some heavy lifting and work on ladders on an occasional basis.
Class E Driver's License
Ability to exercise basic human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with the University community.
Preferred Qualifications
Two or more years vocational or technical school training in one or more of the maintenance field trades preferred.
Physical Demands
Required to lift, push, or pull up to 75 lbs.
Exercises precaution in handling materials such as acid, cement, compressed air, mechanical, or electrical hazards.
May be exposed to dusts, fumes, and odoriferous working conditions.
Required to wear protective clothing such as back braces, face masks, rubber gloves, etc.
Required to work irregular hours.
May be required to crouch, kneel, bend, or stand for long periods.
May be required to work outdoors in inclement weather.
May be subjected to motor or machine noise.

Essential Duties
Repairs and maintains plumbing and steam lines, including fixtures, pipelines, sewer lines, etc.
Works on installation of new equipment such as sinks, tubs, toilets, water heaters, back flow preventers, drinking fountains, pumps, valves, radiators, etc.
Replaces and/or extends old steam and plumbing lines or adds new lines, including cutting and threading of pipe, sweating of copper pipe, and fabrication of materials.
Examines drainage system for obstructions and repairs; clears gutters of any debris.
Reviews work orders, orders materials for completion of jobs, and monitors inventory.
Inspects roofing for leakage and makes minor repairs.
Responds to emergencies during evening, nighttime, and weekend hours.
Assists in moving and rearranging furniture and other equipment.
Assists in various ground maintenance projects such as removing snow from sidewalks, parking lots, steps, entrances and exits.
Operates equipment such as wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, plungers, trucks, shovels, drain openers, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
